Being in the industrial repair business for 40 years, we’ve experienced many different scenarios outside the norm. Having some patience and a can-do attitude can get you through most anything.
On March 11, Joe Raymaker from Nexteer Automotive plant 7 contacted us and needed a Heidenhain encoder repaired on the rush. We picked it up, and once it got here, was immediately put into repair process. Our technician, Greg Tacey, whose specialties includes Heidenhain and cable fabrication, disassembled, then cleaned and inspected the encoder. He said it may have been force-fed with oil. He also found that it had been caked with metal shavings. He then completely rebuilt the unit and we got it back to the plant in less than 8 hours.
Later on, we got the call from Joe at plant 7, and he said that they forgot to install an o-ring on the oil manifold when installing the encoder, and it again, filled with oil. When we received it back, Greg noticed that the feedback cable had been crushed. Not a problem. Since one of Greg’s expertises is cable fabrication, he fabricated a new cable along with cleaning it and testing the unit before returning it to the plant in less than 8 hours.
For us, what it comes down to is this: Finding the quickest solution to a problem, using our processes to complete the job, get the customer back-up and running! Finally, we followed-up with Joe and he had this to say,
”encoder was installed and works great!! I cannot thank you guys enough for the endless miracles you perform!
