Indramat Servo Motors Your Model Number Explained

Indramat Servo Motors Your Model Number Explained

By Jade York
Indramat was purchased by RexRoth, which was then purchased by Bosch. Your servo motor, depending on when it was made, may have a different manufacturer name on it. But if you have a servo motor with Indramat and MHD in the nameplate, you have got an Indramat MHD Series AC Servo Motor on your hands.

The rest of the characters on the nameplate give insight into how the Indramat motor is constructed and how it functions.

Because the motor is in the MHD series, it starts with those three characters.

Here's the rest of the model number breakdown:

MHD 112 ◙ - ♣ ♣ ♣ - ■ ♥ ♠ - ♦ N

The first three numbers designate your motor size, height, and width; we will focus on the model with the three numbers 112.

The last position in the first section (◙) is the length of your motor. For this servo motor, there are four different motor lengths: A, B, C, or D.

  • A: Winding Designations "024" or "058" Available
  • B: Winding Designations "024," "048," or "058" Available
  • C: Winding Designations "024," "038," or "058 Available
  • D: Winding Designations "027" Available

The second section (♣ ♣ ♣) specifies your motors winding designation specific to RPM. The different winding designations are 024, 027, 035, 048, or 058.

The first position in the third section (■) shows your motors feedback type. There are two types of motor feedback on the Indramat MHD Series Servo Motor: N or P. Motor feedback N means the motor has digital servo feedback, and P means the motor has digital servo feedback with multi-turn absolute encoder.

The second position in the third section (♥) tells your servo motor's shaft options. G or P are the two shaft options for this type of servo motor. G is a plain shaft, and P is a keyway.

The third space in the third section (♠) indicates the brake options of the servo motor. The brake options for the Indramat MHD Series Servo Motor are 0, 1, or 3.

  • 0: Without Brake Option
  • 1: 20 Newton Meter (Nm) Brake Option
  • 3: 70 Newton Meter (Nm) Brake Option

In the last section, the first position (♦) is the power connector orientation. There are four different power connector orientations for this servo motor model: A, B, R, or L.

With A, the power connector points towards the shaft, and with B, the power connector points away from the shaft. R points right, and L points left, which is designated by looking on the motor shaft connector housing on top.

The very last letter is N, and it tells the housing type. The N signifies natural convection and surface cooling.

So, let’s review. Take the Indramat MHD112D-027-NG3-BN for example.

It has a motor length of D (D). The winding designation is “027” (027). The servo motor has digital servo feedback (N), and it has a plain shaft (G). The brake option is a 70 newton meter brake option (3), and the power connector points away from the shaft (B). Finally, this motor has natural convection and surface cooling for its housing type (N).
